First blog as President! 15/04/2026

The week past Easter is well underway, and as the newest in a long line of presidents I’m reviving the UoYMS weekly blog! First I’d like to say welcome back and hope your last few weeks were a nice rest!

In our first committee meeting on Tuesday we had much to discuss, and have big plans for the rest of the semester and into next year. Summer formal planning is coming along strong, with the plans being for a low cost high vibes kinda function.

We also had a fantastic lunchtime concert performed by Alice (our new treasurer) on the violin, accompanied by Grace (our new secretary) on the piano! To round off the year we have Piano Ensemble playing our final lunchtime concert next Tuesday at 13:10 in the Lyon’s concert hall, which I’m looking excited for.

That’s all from the music society for this week, in other news, while home for Easter my sheep had 9 lambs being born, I love them, you now have to love them too.

Looking forwards to next week we have a social on thursday, Rhyme without reason! Over to Joel and Eryn for this section:

The aim is simple: find a pair or a group and dress up, BUT you ALL have to rhyme (think ‘banana and pyjama’). The sillier the better!!

There will be drinking involved (BYOB) but as always there is no obligation to drink!!

DATE: THURSDAY 23RD APRIL

TIME: 7:30PM

LOCATION: SLB/108

We will also be holding an EGM to elect Wellbeing and Community Champion at the beginning of the social so show up if you’d like to run or vote for that! -more info on the email sent to members

Thats all from me this week! if anyone has made it this far in my silly blog then thanks for reading and see you next week x

This week’s piece of the week is a piece originally composed by Fritz Kreisler and then adapted for piano by Sergei Rachmaninoff, Liebesleid, translating to Love’s Sorrow.
