The Music Education Group
The Music Education Group, or MEG for short, is a student-run volunteering project. We run musical workshops in primary schools, hospitals, nurseries and care homes across York. You name it, we're there! Our workshops range from samba and djembe drumming to ukuleles, boomwhackers, singing, instrument demonstrations and many more! All of our workshops are free of charge for everyone, making music accessible for all.
Meeting Times
Meetings are held weekly/fortnightly, at a time that suits most our members. Check our socials for more details!
Get Involved
If you are interested in volunteering with us, sign up to be added to our mailing list. Our upcoming workshops are advertised on our mailing list, so keep an eye out for one that interests you!
You don't need to have any experience in music or teaching, just a love of music! We will guide you through your first few workshops and give you opportunities to shadow more experienced members until you feel comfortable to lead!
MEGaphonics
We are starting a new community choir for children in years 5 and 6 called the MEGaphonics! Thursdays at 16:00-17:30 in the Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall. Again, it is completely free for children to take part, making sure every child in the area has access to singing in a choir! We invite as many members as possible to come and help run the choir! It is a fantastic opportunity for any singers who would like experience with running a choir, conducting, arranging, accompanying, and leading a large group of children, or it's a way for members of any ability to sing in a very fun setting and support the children. More information will be on our mailing list and social media, but get in touch if you have any questions!
Additional Info
To volunteer with MEG a DBS Check and basic safeguarding training is required. We will guide you through this!
MEG is a very fun, joyful and rewarding environment - plus it provides great experience for musicians and educators. Membership is free, and we encourage you all to give it a try!
